Department of Languages – Faculty of Agriculture

The Departments of Languages within the Faculty of Agriculture focus on developing students’ academic and professional communication skills in multiple languages. This department provides opportunities to study English as a Second Language (ESL) as well as English as a Foreign Language (EFL) to promote global communicative competence among students. Courses are designed to enhance both linguistic ability and intercultural understanding, preparing graduates to engage effectively in global contexts.

The Department of Languages at BAU plays a central role in offering compulsory and elective language courses across the university. Its responsibilities include:

1. English Language Instruction

  • (a) The Department runs English language courses for students across academic units where English is part of the obligatory curriculum.
  • (b) These courses focus on academic writing, reading comprehension, speaking, listening, and discipline-specific English tailored to agricultural and allied sciences.

2. Support for Erasmus and Exchange Students

  • (a) For BAU students selected as outgoing Erasmus+ participants, the Department of Languages prepares special language courses to strengthen their English skills before their mobility.
  • (b) Incoming exchange students are offered intensive English language courses with contextual Properties, ensuring they can adapt smoothly to the local academic and social environment.

Internationalization and Academic Mobility

Through its language programmes, BAU strengthens its internationalization agenda. English remains the primary medium for global academic engagement, while contextual properties support students in engaging with exchange programmes, particularly within partner institutions. The Department of Languages ensures that both outgoing and incoming students benefit from structured linguistic support, thus enriching the overall academic exchange experience.
